I did GEL ELECTROPHORESIS today!!
One really fantastic thing about H3 is that the practical lessons are really awesome. You get to handle the up-to-date machinery eg. spectrophotometer etc. and conduct experiments which appeared in your textbook but you'll never get to because the school has pathetic funds. haha.
I was kind of excited today and i kept going back to the lab next-door to check if my agarose gel has solidified. Teresa claimed that i looked like some child bursting with curiosity! The hardest part is loading the dye into the wells because the wells are really small! My hands were trembling while doing so but once you succeeded, you do feel extremely accomplished:) Some guy complained to Dr. Kenneth Yu and he was like, uhm.. you can invent bigger ones next time. haha. After the gel-E, we proceeded to take a photo of the gel (autoradiography!) using some high-tech machine.
Here's the absolutely cool pic:
The ethidium bromide takes gazillion years to absorb the UV light in the machine so me, chex, amanda and teresa began to chat and gossip. haha. It was incredulously entertaining, esp the part on the freaking annoying rj guy *winks*.
Some random photos from my phone:
